Climate change
- A policy of high population growth based on high levels of immigration will see Australian greenhouse gas emissions increase twice as fast compared with a policy of zero net immigration, making it increasingly difficult to meet international targets with respect to climate change, whether in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol or its alternatives11.
- Global warming may cause the inundation of many neighbouring Pacific atolls such as Tuvalu, leading to the prospect of many more environmental refugees seeking refuge in Australia12.
